Questions & Answers

Can I book my course online?

Yes - please use our Online Registration Form to book a course.

Do I need to do an assessment test?

Yes - all students need to have an assessment to confirm their level of English. We can then allocate you to a class with students of a similar level or a one-to-one class. We will also have a chat with you to understand your specific needs.

If you are coming from abroad, we will email you an online test to complete before you arrive in the UK. You will also be tested on the first day.

What happens on the first day of school?

You will have an assessment test first. After that you will receive a Welcome Pack and will have an induction on rules, health and safety and a tour around the building. You will also receive other relevant information about the School and staying in Oxford. Then you will be introduced to your teacher and will start your class.

Will I get a certificate?

Yes - all students receive an Attendance Certificate on the condition that they: attend classes, complete homework and assignments, and pass their progress tests. If you are a longer-term student and complete a level you will also get a Level Completion Certificate.

Is there a registration fee?

All  students need to pay a registration fee of  £85 for classes in person, or £40 for classes online.

Do I need a course book?

For full-time General English students (15, 24 or 30 hours) the initial materials are included in the price. You will be given handouts, and also a book with a workbook if you enrol for a minimum of 4 weeks. If you move to a different class or level, or finish the book given, then you have to buy additional textbooks, cost of around £45.

Full-time Exam preparation students will receive study materials for the morning class, but will have to buy additional textbooks for the afternoon lessons, cost of £70.

Students attending one-to-one classes - all materials are included in the price.

How many students are there in each class?

We have a maximum of 10 students per class.

Can I access the Internet?

Yes - wi-fi is available to all students free of charge. You will get the access details on the first day of school.

What do I need to bring with me to England?

You should bring with you:
  • Passport
  • Proof of permission to visit/reside in the UK (visa)
  • Documentation about the student’s address in Oxford (not necessary if the School is providing accommodation)
  • Previous English certificates
  • Appropriate clothing for all weather conditions including umbrellas and raincoats!
  • Dictionary or other study aids
  • Enough cash for your first few days in Oxford.

All students are responsible for their personal belongings. The School is not responsible for any items belonging to the student.

Do I need insurance?

You must take out personal and medical insurance before you travel. Your insurance should cover medical and dental treatment, emergencies, loss/damage to personal belongings, and any travel cancellation costs.

Do I need to register with the Police?

You need to register with the Police within seven days of your arrival to the UK if you are from the following countries:

Afghanistan, Algeria, Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Belarus, Bolivia, Brazil, China (including Hong Kong and Macao), Colombia, Cuba, Egypt, Georgia, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Libya, Moldova, Morocco, North Korea, Oman, Palestine, Peru, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Tajikistan, Tunisia, Turkey, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Yemen.

What can I do after my class has finished?

You can use Room 2 (The Library) for self-study or to relax. You can borrow a book or a DVD free of charge. Or perhaps you would like to sit in the Green Room or in the garden? The School also organizes regular social activities for our students in the afternoons and evenings.

Where can I buy food?

There is a good selection of supermarkets, pubs, international cafés and restaurants around the School. You can find a variety of English and international food, for example: from Italy, Spain, Greece, China, Turkey, India, Japan, Morocco, Nepal, Poland, Russia, and Thailand.

Do I need to buy a bus pass?

If you are attending our Junior School (with activities), we will give you a bus pass on your first day.

All other students who are staying here for more than a week should buy a bus pass called "The Key” from the Oxford Bus Company. Choose the Oxford Smart Zone option for your card if you are planning to stay and travel around Oxford.

A weekly bus pass costs around £18 and a monthly pass costs £61.

Can I cancel my course?

In some circumstances it is possible to cancel a course. See our Cancellation policy.

What if my visa is rejected?
If a student is denied a student visa or a study permit and provides the School with a copy of the rejection letter on or before the first day of classes, the School will refund the fees paid minus administrative costs of £350.

If you have any other questions, please speak to someone from the Office.
